The tennis club in Colchester is thriving, with lots going on. We pride ourselves on being able to offer an extremely friendly environment for players of all ages and abilities. It is our aim for every tennis member to have that unique feeling of “being part of something”.

At Lexden we go to great lengths to make sure there is something for everyone. Whether it is, social tennis, competitive tennis or just some plain good old fashioned exercise we hope we can accommodate all your needs.

Club Sessions

There is no better way to get to know new members and enjoy some non-competitive match play by taking part in our club sessions. Club sessions are run at various times in the week throughout the year. Each session is over an hour long and gives players the chance to pitch up and play doubles with other like-minded members. Below are the timings for current club sessions:

  • Tuesday 10.30 – 12.30 (supervised match play Ladies only)
  • October – March: Wednesday 7.30-9.30 (unsupervised match play, mixed)
  • April – September: Sunday 10.30-12.00 (unsupervised match play, mixed)

Social Events

Four times a year the club organises Tennis ‘social events’.  These events have helped to create a great environment within the club and help new members get to know one another.

  • Free unlimited court bookings
  • Free mixed coaching session every Saturday 10.30-11.30
  • Free ladies morning (supervised match play) Tuesday 10.30-12.30
  • Three free club sessions (unsupervised match play) Monday, Wednesday & Sunday *see below
  • Entry into our unrivalled internal leagues (singles, doubles and mixed doubles)
  • Entry into four internal competitions which run consecutively throughout the year
  • Social events
  • A chance to represent Lexden RFC in external competitions
  • Access to an extensive coaching programme and one-to-one tuition

THE COURTS

The Club has two courts, covered by an  “Airdome” between the months of September and June, and access in the summer months to a further four outdoor courts that are owned by Holmwood House School.

Members have extensive use of the club courts for their own matches and practice, and with an easy-to-use online court booking system it couldn’t be easier to book up and play.  For more information on court availability, please read this page.
